The Safety & Health Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and safety of our construction projects. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety and quality assurance programs that align with both state and federal regulations. Beyond ensuring compliance with OSHA and Alaska OSH standards, the Specialist fosters a proactive safety culture across all job sites and helps uphold the highest standards of workmanship.
 
Your day-to-day: 
In this role, you may oversee the daily workflow of site safety personnel and assist with performance evaluations that focus on safety and quality practices. A significant portion of your time will be spent conducting detailed site inspections to verify compliance with regulatory standards and company procedures. You’ll be responsible for developing tailored safety protocols, leading incident and near-miss investigations, and recommending practical corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Coordinating and tracking safety trainings and certifications will also fall within your scope, ensuring that all site personnel are fully equipped to meet safety expectations.
This position works closely with project managers, field teams, and subcontractors to embed safety and quality considerations throughout the entire construction process. You will play a key role in reviewing workmanship and materials, assessing adherence to plans and specifications, and supporting continuous improvement through timely reporting and documentation of safety or quality concerns. Staying current on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory updates is essential to maintaining an effective safety and quality program. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support company goals.
 
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Alaska Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) standards

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in construction safety or quality control
  • Certifications such as OSHA 30, CSP, CIH, or CQM are a plus
 
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Regular site visits requiring walking, climbing, and navigating active construction zones
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied conditions and travel between job sites
